Leadership is...

As mentioned on the home page, I have been a part of the Leads program since my second year on campus. Throughout this program, it has consisted of two classes on theory of leadership and a public speaking course. These courses have taught me the importance of honing my skills to be an effective leader.

 

Leadership is multifaceted in its presentation and reception. However, through this program I have learned that is important to know your constituency (or followers) and provide open and honest instruction. Additionally, these courses and my experiences outside the classroom have characterized my leadership style as transactional. It is essential, for me, to be in control of and analyze the details of the process to most effectively lead a group or initiative.

My time at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and in this program have shaped me into the person I am today. My experiences have taught me to take everyday on with honesty, integrity, and humbleness. No day will be the same, but these values will help me undertake any situation. I practice honesty through communicating my limits to my peers. I show my integrity by keeping to my word and following through, no matter the limitations. Experiences with challenges have kept me humble in my abilities.
